APPLICATIONS
Effective water treatment for all potable water applications where the use of sodium-based systems is inappropriate, notably:
Coffee machines (espresso, bulk brewers, pour-and serve)
Combination steam-convection ovens and baking ovens with water injection
Hot water boilers for beverage making
Drinks vending machines
Ice-makers
BENEFITS
CTUs improve water quality in several important ways:
Assures food grade standards of potability including removal of the scum which can occur in tea and vended drinks
Removes heavy metals – lead, copper, mercury, etc – and chlorine, thus improving the taste, colour and odour of the treated water
Prevents scale formation on metal surfaces
Reduces maintenance costs and revenue loss through equipment breakdown
Increases equipment life
OPERATION
Temporary hardness salts – calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate – and heavy metals are attracted to the CTU’s food grade resin beads and thus removed from the water supply. After softening, water exits the CTU via a silver-impregnated carbon filter incorporated in the central riser tube. This removes any remaining traces of organic matter and chlorine. Unlike some systems, the resin beads and activated carbon are not mixed together.

CANISTER EXCHANGE
As CTUs cannot be regenerated on site, exhausted canisters need to be exchanged for fresh canisters at predetermined intervals. Frequency of changeover depends on the water hardness and volume of water used. European WaterCare provides a free water testing service to establish the capacity of each unit on site and obtains water meter readings where required to establish the appropriate exchange interval. Exchange can be undertaken by our service department using water hardness and unit capacity tracking of exchange requirements. For information on unit capacities at different levels of water hardness, please see separate CTU Capacity Chart.

PRODUCT RANGE

European WaterCare offers a wide range of CTU systems to suit all applications.

Single units are normally dedicated to a single item of equipment and are made in six standard sizes (5, 10, 15, 18, 23 and 30 litres).

Special models are available to suit specific needs. However, due to the weight of units when wet and the practicalities of exchange, European WaterCare does not recommend canisters larger than 30 litres.

Water saving for Combi ovens: To ensure the minimum use of water with our CTU products for combination and steam ovens, European WaterCare developed the ‘3-port head'. This ensures untreated water only is used for the drain/quench function, which flushes the system through. Only treated water is allowed into the oven to be turned into steam. The 3-port head system maximises usage of treated water – and the working life of the CTU – while reducing frequency of exchange and maintenance costs.

Duplex, triplex and multiplex systems suit treatment of water in large volumes or when used by more than one piece of equipment. Any number of canisters can be linked together to provide the required quantity of treated water. Units can be fitted with countdown meters set in accordance with water hardness and linked to an audible warning to indicate when the units are approaching exhaustion. All equipment to be treated by this system should be served by a plastic/alkathene ring main.

FOOD GRADE ASSURANCE
The ion exchange resin used in CTUs is specially prepared and purified to meet potable water requirements. It conforms with FDA (USA) regulations and has food grade approval in the UK via the Water Research Council.
WARRANTY
All CTU systems come with a lifetime warranty covering faulty manufacture. Installation of a CTU will eliminate scale-related problems providing that the units are exchanged at the appropriate intervals.

SERVICE BACK-UP
All servicing is carried out by European WaterCare’s fully trained engineers and can be arranged on an annual contract. A telephone help line is available for sizing advice and troubleshoot needs.
